Made by hand, in India, to order

Sharmaya rugs are produced by artisan teams working in wool and wool blends. Nothing is woven speculatively: production begins once an order is confirmed, which is how we keep a handmade rug at a direct price.

Made to order in India. Estimated production and dispatch within 25–30 business days. Transit time is provided separately.

From yarn to dispatch

  1. 01

    Yarn selection

Wool, wool blends and viscose highlight yarns are selected and dyed to the colourway of the design.

  2. 02

    Construction

Depending on the design, a piece is handwoven, made on a handloom, or hand-tufted for carved definition and depth.

  3. 03

    Finishing

Pile is trimmed and levelled, edges are bound, and carved detail is defined by hand.

  4. 04

    Inspection and dispatch

Dimensions, colour and finish are checked against the order before the rug is rolled and packed.

What handmade means in practice

Each rug is made by hand, so finished dimensions may vary slightly and colour may read differently between batches, lighting and screens.

We would rather set that expectation clearly than photograph a rug in a way that promises machine-made uniformity. Product imagery on this site is currently placeholder artwork while final photography is produced.
